Russia continues to reject homosexuality despites Putin’s denial
Thousands of demonstrators are protesting about the Government’s prohibition of public exposure of homosexuality, promoted by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Film and showbiz stars have expressed their opposition to this Russian law against “propaganda” or advertising of homosexuality. For example British actor Stephen Fry, flew to St. Petersburg to try to stop the politician Vitali Milonov in his gays persecution.
Also, pop stars like Madonna or Lady Gaga protest against the ban to talk about homosexuality in the presence of minors, while the German playwright Marius von Mayenburg canceled its performance in a theater festival, in protest against discrimination of homosexuals in Russia.
In Russia, people who qualify as normal the “non-traditional relationships” will be fined, it is prohibited to display rainbow flags and gay couples cannot kiss in public.
Putin, however, ensures that no one in Russia is discriminated for their sexuality and that homosexuality is allowed, despite the violent acts related to homophobia, which have increased up to and include murder.
