Sor Maria Troncatti was beatified in Macas
Today during the Sunday Angelus at Rome, Pope Benedict XVI pointed out the beatification in Macas (Morona Santiago, Ecuador), of nun Maria Troncatti, who dedicated her faith and her forces towards indigenous people of the Ecuadorian Amazon jungle and the promotion of self human.
“Yesterday, in Macas, Ecuador, Maria Troncatti was proclaimed Blessed, sister of the Daughters of Maria Auxiliadora (Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice), born in Italy. Nurse during World War I, went to Ecuador, where she gave herself on serving the forest populations, in evangelization and human promotion, “said the pope.
Maria Troncatti was born in Corteno Golgi (Brescia, northern Italy) in 1883. In 1908 she entered the Congregation of the Daughters of Maria Auxiliadora and served as a Red Cross nurse in a military hospital, during the World War.
She died in an air crash in 1969 at Sucúa and her remains are buried in Macas. (MZ)
