Spain gave its last goodbye to Sara Montiel
This morning, several main avenues in Madrid were closed for the procession in honor of the late singer and actress Sara Montiel, who died yesterday at age 85.
Hundreds of locals gathered to bid farewell and pay tribute to the “Universal Manchega” who was loved and admired for her beauty and talent worldwide.
During the religious ceremony, the coffin was closed, as was her will. At the Mass highlighted a large photo of the actress with a huge crown of red carnations. The ceremony was attended by her son Zeus and her daughter Thais, also friends like the actor Max Valverde, Giancarlo Viola and Marujita Diaz.
The procession left the mortuary of San Isidro, where it has been installed since yesterday the funeral chapel. Then went through the Plaza of Spain to the gates of Callao cinema, whose façade projected “The Violetera” in a giant screen, and also a selection of her best images, while other screens were covered with photos of the missing artist.
Local police escorted the procession, composed of eleven vehicles plus the one carrying the coffin to the Sacramental de San Justo. Audiences flocked behind the installed fences, throwing carnations and shouting “pretty and beautiful.”
After the tribute in Callao ended, the funeral procession started its journey by Cibeles, Paseo del Prado, Atocha and Paseo de las Acacias to Sacramental de San Justo, where she was buried.
