Andy Whitfield, the star of the television series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” died on Sunday in Sydney, Australia at 39.
Vashti, Whitfield’s widow, described her husband as “a beautiful young warrior who died in Sydney on a sunny morning in the arms of his beloved wife. “
Whitfield, who was born in Wales, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma 18 months ago, his agent informed, while preparing for the second season for the “Starz” Channel original series, which won high rating points for its explicit scenes of sex and violence.
The TV Channel announced in January that the Australian actor Liam McIntyre could replace Whitfield.
