Syria chemical weapons

United States received a favorable proposal from Russia to place Syria chemical weapons under international control, in spite of this they made it clear their skepticism regarding the true intentions of the regime of Bashar al-Assad.

The Russian proposal was made after Secretary of State, John Kerry, say in London that Syria could avoid a confrontation if the chemical weapons are delivered in a week. “Delivering them without delay and allow a complete and total count,” said Kerry.

While the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, called “Syrian leaders to accept not only to put its arsenal of chemical weapons under international control and then destroy it, but to fully join the Organization for the Prohibition of Weapons chemical,” UN (OPCW).

Syria welcomes the proposal received from its main ally. “Syria welcomes Russia’s initiative, based on the concerns of the Russian leadership on the lives of our citizens and the security of our country,” said Walid Mualem, the Syrian foreign minister in Moscow.

Finally, the UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon called on Syrian creation supervised by the agency areas where chemical weapons would be destroyed.
