The Cardinal of Munich arrived in Ecuador to strengthen ties

In commemoration of the 55 years of fraternity between the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising and the Catholic Church in Ecuador, Cardinal Reinhard Marx visited Manta and Portoviejo yesterday.
The Munich Cardinal was received in La Pila parish and then arrived at the La Dolorosa church in Manta. Initially, he planned to visit the ground zero of Manta, devastated by the earthquake occurred last year, but the Cardinal could not take a flight from Cuenca and had to arrive by car.
Archbishop of Portoviejo Lorenzo Voltollini said that the visit of Cardinal Marx was made to visit the population that suffered after that earthquake that claimed the lives of more than 670 people.
The Ecuadorean Episcopal Conference said that this friendship with the Archdiocese of Munich is manifested in mutual prayers, exchange of volunteers, and financial contributions from the Catholics of Munich. (I)
