The Ecuadorian pitahaya will arrive in China

The Ecuadorian pitahaya will have a new arrival destination. China joins the 58 countries that this fruit reaches. It was reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) on Monday, April 4, 2023. 

In Ecuador there are 7,216.73 hectares of pitahaya production.

According to the Central Bank, more than 23,000 tons are exported with an income of USD 99 million for Ecuador. 

The Chinese customs authorities highlighted the work between the countries, especially the quality of the quarantine management systems and traceability process in packinghouses. Added to this are the measures that producers and collection centers follow so that the fruit arrives in good condition. 

Patricio Almeida, executive director of Agrocalidad, pointed out that “with intense work between the two phytosanitary institutions and the commitment of the pitahaya producer-exporter sector, after complying with the planned audit, the market for this fruit was opened to the giant Asian”. 

The United States is the main destination market with 84% of the total volume exported, followed by Canada, Colombia and Singapore.

In the country there are 7,216.73 hectares of pitahaya production and Agrocalidad has 1,891 registered producers that are linked to the export of this item. The provinces with the highest production of this fruit are Morona Santiago, Pichincha, Manabí and Guayas.
