The Ecuadorian shrimp will be the first in the world in which its digital information is available to customers
In the coming months, in European countries or in the United States, the Ecuadorian shrimp boxes will include a QR code with which, customers with the cell phone, can obtain information such as: who harvested it, how it was processed and packed, how many hours he traveled from the shrimp in Ecuador to the store or how many days he was on the hanger.
Several Ecuadorian companies dedicated to the breeding and export of shrimp, have worked in this project, so that this useful information can be available to their foreign clients. If the project is completed, then Ecuador would be the first country to have a shrimp that uses that type of technology.
These companies are using thhe IBM Food Trust platform, which was provided by the International Business Machines Corporation. The whole project will use Blockchain technology, which consists of scanning QR codes printed on the packaging of the products that allows the consumer, at any distribution point in the world, know the origin and other useful information.
According to IBM, Food Trust provides the highest level of commercially tamper-proof protection. It offers unique protection against the misuse of internal credentials, protection against malware (malicious programs) and protection of hardware encryption keys.
