The rent of suites via online worries the urbanizations
Ecuadornews:

The capture of a supposed kidnapper who lived in a rented house in the El Río urbanization, located on the Samborondón road, aroused the concern of the residents of the area. The case, added to other home thefts that have arisen in the sector, caused the presidents of the cities to call a meeting to address the issue of security.
Among the concerns of the inhabitants is the recent discovery of the rental of a suite in Los Lagos that is done through the AirBnB platform, which for many is a procedure that violates urbanization safety regulations, especially due to the constant entry of unknown people.
Upon entering this platform, EXPRESO was able to confirm that this form of rental is also registered in Entre Ríos, Ciudad Celeste, Aquamarina, Isla Sol, Rio Grande and Castelnouvo, on the Samborondón road. And in Laguna Club, Bosques de la Costa, Valle Alto or Puerto Azul, on the way to the coast. All with good comments from ex users of independent rooms.
For Rodrigo Cevallos, who chaired the Federation of Social Organizations La Puntilla (Foslap), a group that was created in 1998 and is inactive since 2008, in effect this type of service tends to violate security.
“Unfortunately today we have an evil that affects society, such as drug trafficking, and that leads us to distrust everything.” Therefore, in La Puntilla, he states, lodging of this type is prohibited. “If you rent a room, a house, it must be long-term. That gives us the option of being aware of the activities that are carried out, “he adds.
Taking into account that this service is valid and has given good results in other cities, Vicente Vélez, president of Bouganville, considers it beneficial, although he clarifies that in his neighborhood no cases have been reported.
“The platform is supposed to be secure, we are talking about an international service.” That today many fear him is understandable, he admits. “There are ways to strengthen security.”
For Rodolfo Aguayo, president of the Entre Ríos committee, one of them lies in the intermediary and the recommendations he asks of the ‘visitor’. Aguayo once had six foreigners through the AirBnB platform and it went well. However, he chose not to use the service any more because even he, who had carried out previous investigations to the ones hosted, was suspicious to know who he had at home.
Regarding the houses in their neighborhood that offer the service, the committee says they do not know who it belongs to “because in the network they do not tell you the data first and there is no sign that announces it”. However, in the new statutes that will be carried out, this topic will be considered: either to control it or to prevent it from being promoted in its entirety.
Carlos Pástenes, administrator of Vía al Sol, on the way to the coast, mentions that the urbanization statutes specify that the rental of houses should be made exclusively to families, not to independent persons. “If we detect that we send an email to the owner and it is indicated that according to the internal regulation that cannot happen,” he explains.
Major Pablo Velázquez, head (e) of Samborondón district, mentions that this type of rent is not a determining factor in committing a crime, but it can influence.
“The criminal always takes advantage of any opportunity, and the residents of these urbanizations believe that it is enough to have guards or camera circuits. They rent people who, although they may know at that moment, do not know exactly who they are and with what intentions they go, “the official notes.
Velázquez mentions that the majority of robberies that have arisen in the urbanizations have been because from inside they receive information of the state of the houses or entry permits.
A committee for safety
In the case of insecurity, for several weeks the committee of residents of the Entre Ríos and Bouganville urbanizations, supported by the representatives of neighboring towns, analyzed the idea of creating a joint delegation that fought for the common good of the urban parish La Puntilla
To do this, as they announced yesterday during a meeting, they intend to reactivate the Federation of Social Organizations La Puntilla (Foslap), which was created in 1996 and is inactive since 2008, and which precisely watched over the interests of the area, especially in the field of security.
The police endowment and the mobilization of the agents, they point out, is scarce; and the infrastructure of the Community Police Unit (km 1), in the same way, is not the most appropriate. “We also want to strengthen river safety. Foslap could facilitate the preparation of guards, coordinate with the Police … The idea is that we all come together to have a safe parish, “said Pablo Donoso, member of the Entre Ríos committee.
