The sustainability of tuna is addressed in Manta
Ecuadortimes:
Manta, in the province of Manabí, will receive tomorrow, June 20, the major referents of what is called responsible fishing, to address an issue flag of Ecuador: the sustainability of the industry, which generates to Ecuador more than 1,000 million annual exports.
The IV Regional Tuna Sustainability Forum is organized by the Ecuadorian Chamber of Tuna Industrialists and Processors, Ceipa, a guild that brings together the main tuna companies in the country.
According to Ceipa’s program, one of the main exhibitors will be Yoon Jee Kim, Fisheries Officer of FAO, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. He will talk about the work of this entity in relation to indicators of sustainable development goals.
As sustainability and trade have their links, Ceipa brings Claudia Uribe, head of the Office for Latin America and the Caribbean of the International Trade Centre, ITC.
It will be the ideal forum to assess and raise awareness in the world. For this there are 13 conferences and two panels with not only international but also national exponents.
The event takes place more than a month after Ecuador initiates the first closure which, precisely, is one of the most important conservation mechanisms of the IATTC. (I)
