The media said the United States is in the midst of cultural and demographic changes of historic proportions, and Obama is both the symbol and, in many ways, the architect of the new United States, “said the editorial director of Time, Rick Stengel, told broadcaster NBC.
“By finding and forge a new majority, by converting weakness into an opportunity and to seek, in
the midst of great adversity, create a more perfect union, Obama is the personality of the year 2012 from TIME ,” said Stengel.
Stengel said “Obama is the first Democratic President since FDR to win more than 50% of the vote in consecutive elections and the first President since 1940 to win re-election with an unemployment rate north of 7.5%”.
Obama had already been chosen by Time as Person of the Year in 2008, when he became the first black U.S. president.
