To the Association of Free Zones joins Ecuador

Ecuador joined from Friday October 26 to the Association of Free Zones of the Americas (AZFA) through the company DP World, concessionaire of the Port of Deep Waters of Posorja. 

The Dubai firm leads the construction of the logistics park next to the port with characteristics of a Special Zone of Economic Development (ZEDE). Gustavo González de Vega, president of AZFA, indicated that it is important to know the free regime of Ecuador that for many years was not known.

“The current legislation (Law on Productive Development) of the regime is very positive, with very competitive tax benefits in the region; It is time to make it known, “he said. One of the objectives of the association, through DPWorld, is to promote the Ecuadorian franc regime for the attraction of Ibero-American companies. 

The AZFA groups more than 400 companies from 23 countries in Latin America and Europe; Spain, among them. The free zones are dynamic instruments of the economy through foreign trade for the advantages such as the elimination of tariffs for importation and other types of taxes.

González added that thanks to the development of the free zones, Ecuador will be able to take advantage of the agreement with the European Union, as well as with other commercial blocks. Jorge Velásquez, general manager of DP World Posorja, said that strategic agreements are currently being created to promote the ZEDE. 

“We are working in combination with this type of project, creating a port and annex to this logistics park (over 100 hectares) and a future industrial pole to boost the economy.” Caterina Costa, president of the Chamber of Industries of Guayaquil, believes that the synergy between the public, private and academic sectors is important to face the challenges and challenges that exist in the world.
