Two films evoke the work of hieleros in Chimborazo
Ecuadornews:
The director Igor Guayasamín visited on the weekend Chimborazo in order to develop a forum from the films Los hieleros del Chimborazo, which rolled in 1980, and Baltazar Ushca, frozen time, which was screened in 2008.
The activity was carried out in retribution to the beneficiary project of the ICCA 2017 Fund for Cinematographic and Audiovisual Promotion, called the Kunturñawi Ecuadorian Film Festival.
The conversation was held in the community of La Moya-Calpi, in Riobamba.
The documentary Los hieleros del Chimborazo showed the living conditions of the Indians who climbed up to 5,200 meters to chop gigantic blocks of ice to sell at the fairs.
Piedad Zurita, director of the Kunturñawi Festival, said that the purpose of this forum was to recognize indigenous communities as cultural agents and value their achievements in the construction of a future that implies the integral and equitable participation of these original groups. (I)
