Two former agents on trial for kidnapping case of Fernando Balda

Almost three months after being called to trial for the plagiarism of Fernando Balda, former President Rafael Correa, former Secretary of Intelligence Pablo Romero and intelligence former agents Jessica Falcón and Raúl Chicaiza, today a Court of the National Court of Justice begins the hearing of judgment against these last two.

The trial stage continues against Chicaiza and Falcón, because they are the only defendants who are detained in the country. Correa and Romero are abroad and have the status of fugitives, so the trial cannot advance in absentia. The Court of Judgment, composed of the national judges Miguel Jurado (speaker), Sylvia Sánchez and Édgar Flores, will have to assess the effective cooperation that the intelligence former agents delivered to the Office of the Prosecutor within this process.
