U.S. grants asylum to Ecuadorian journalist Emilio Palacio

Today the Migration Service of the United States has granted political asylum to Emilio Palacio, Ecuadorian journalist. Palacios announced this news today at a press conference, Palacio has referred to what he describes as “self-censorship” of the media in Ecuador. He also thanked his lawyers, Jorge Alvear and Sandara Grosman.

Officials of the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry reacted by denying the information. They stated that the figure of asylum does not exist in U.S. law. However, the defense of the journalist published the notification sent by the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration with the title ‘Asylum Approval’ (asylum approved). (FL)
