On Friday, U.S. President Barack Obama signed a law to counteract the alleged Iranian influence in Latin America, through a diplomatic and political strategy to be design by the State Department.
Tehran has close ties particularly with Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador, countries that have made investments and strengthened its presence.
Following the signing of Obama, the White House reported that now people have to wait for the official publication that was approved with a broad support from Republicans and Democrats in Congress ten days ago. The State Department should prepare a strategy in 180 days to know the investment and partnership activities of the Tehran regime in the region.
The text also requests the Department of Homeland Security to strengthen surveillance at border lands to “prevent the passage of Iranian agents” and Islamist organizations Hamas and Hezbollah, although no details of how it should do it have been revealed.
