Swiss tennis player, Roger Federer gave another step towards his sixth title in the US Open after passing to the third round.  Federer was joined by the Argentinean, Juan Monaco.

Federer is the third one to qualify after the Serbian, Novak Djokovic and the title defender, the Spanish Rafael Nadal. The Swiss player has not won a Grand Slam tournament since the Australia Open in 2010. This year US Open is his last chance to expand his winning streak of eight years.

Meanwhile, Juan Monaco advanced to the third round after defeating the Czech Radek Stepanek who retreated from the third round because of a pain in his right shoulder. After four days since the beginning of the tournament, seven men and five women have abandoned the US Open due to injuries. (AV)
