Vice President of FUT dismisses alliance with Lasso
Juan Vareles, Vice President of the United Federation of Workers (FUT for its Spanish acronym), said that they will not be part of an alliance with Guillermo Lasso, leader of the Creating Opportunities (CREO) movement, because of the issue of the referendum on the constitutional amendments.
“We will not pay for the game of the right party. We will not fall on the issue of Lasso, we will go with our position and that the government convene a Constituent Assembly if it is necessary “said Vareles.
The weekend a meeting was held between the FUT, delegates of ECUARUNARI, of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) and other groups that are against the proposed amendments and the new Labour Code.
“They have said to us they have proposed 200 amendments to the Code, we believe that these have been the result of observations we, the workers, have made, but we do not know them. We want to sit at a tripartite table where employers, workers and the Government are to find a solution”, he said.
