Victor Valdes says he will not renew his contract with Barça
Through his representative, Spanish goalkeeper Victor Valdes announced he will not renew his contract with FC Barcelona, which expires on June 30.
“Agents of Victor Valdes have reported the Club, at a meeting, his irrevocable decision to not renew his contract, thus avoiding to assess economic issues,” said spokesman Gines Carvajal, trough a statement sent to AFP.
The 31 year-old goalkeeper has been playing for the FC Barcelona since 2002 and has not known any other club, which is why he claims to want to play in other leagues.
Tito Vilanova, current coach of Barça, admits he was surprised by the news but called for respect for the goalkeeper’s decision, because “he has not asked to leave, but he has said he will not renew his contract.”
Vilanova has confirmed that Valdes will remain as starting goalkeeper: “While he is with us he will be our goalkeeper and we must help him as he will help us.”
