Volcanic Ash Damages Crops

The Tungurahua volcano has been rated by experts as a moderate-high activity volcano, since it shows lava and ash.
The harmful effects of the ash are currently affecting, with more intensity, the agricultural area, according to a preliminary assessment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries (MAGAP for its Spanish acronym), which revealed that more than 6,200 hectares of crops have been damaged only in Tungurahua.
On Saturday, the National Secretariat of Risk Management declared an orange alert for Tungurahua, Chimborazo, Bolívar and Pastaza.
The products are being lost under the thick layer of ash, but the biggest concern of people living in affected regions is the lack of food for their cattle heads. (MZ)
