WikiLeaks and Garzon Clarify Assange statements
A misrepresentation by CNN, about a statement made by WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, in which he stated that Ecuador, the country that granted him asylum and allows him to live in his diplomatic branch in London, qualified as “insignificant“. Meanwhile his attorney, Spanish Baltasar Garzon argues that he would not offend the country with the comment, saying that “the phrase was taken out of context.”
Speaking in a Colombian radio (Caracol), Garzon said that when Assange speaked of “insignificant“, he was referring to no-importance given to the question made regarding the freedoms of speech and press in Ecuador, while the WikiLeaks statement pointed out “there have been reports… made with the intention of taking out of context the meaning of the comment.”
