Women gain more ground in 2014 elections
The female groups have decided to improve the parity and women’s political participation for the sectional elections of February 23, 2014.
The groups have held training workshops and have signed agreements with five political movements: Pachakutik, SUMA, CREO, Avanza and Alianza PAIS, the last one still has pending meetings. “They came together to push a major campaign to meet that goal,” says Margarita Carranco, representative of the group Nosotras.
After formalizing proposals, women’s groups are preparing to carry out the tasks, starting with a marketing workshop and digital literacy for women candidates, who will be chosen from a list of suggestions from parties and women’s network.
A foreign consultant will explain the candidates how to campaign, what will be their tools, how to manage their image, discourses and networks. All aimed to an election victory. The accompaniment will be until the end of the campaign, said Carranco.
