Yasuni exploitation still causes controverse

Posted On 12 Sep 2013

Ministers of strategic sectors, along with those of non-renewable resources and the environment, and the Manager of Petroamazonas, presented the clauses regarding the exploitation of the ITT field, which will be made provided as long as the Assembly approves the request carried out by the President of Ecuador in recent days.

Rafael Poveda, Minister of strategic sectors, pointed out that the development of ITT does not include the construction of roads. “What is going to be made are trails that will allow control operations.” Most of the transport will be done by the waterway and air (helicopter),” said Poveda.

The official also explained that the infrastructure to be used for the transport of oil will be buried under the trail, and energy neede for the production will go through an underground cable along with the pipeline “fulfilling the standards.”

Moreover, the Biodiversity Committee received yesterday several members of social organizations who are against any drilling activity in that area.

Fernando Rodríguez, director of the Ecociencia Foundation, believes that oil exploitation will cause an impact to the towns in voluntary isolation. Since they are not even accustomed to that kind of intervention, and thus will be removed and most likely extinguish.

During the afternoon several groups were brought together in favour of the exploitation, who pointed out the importance of the resources that come out of these blocks serve for the development of the country, they also supported the arguments of the Government.
