Yemen Soldiers Foil Al-Qaeda Plot
Posted On 08 Aug 2012
Today soldiers from Yemen foiled a plot by an Al-Qaeda-linked cell before it carried attacks inside the capital Sanaa and seized 40 belts packed with explosives.
The Defense Ministry said that seven militants were detained in the southern town of Jaar, where a suicide bomber killed 45 tribal fighters earlier this week. On last June Yemen declared a victory over militants calling themselves Ansar al Sharia (Partisans of Islamic Law).
This terrorist organization continues to pose a serious threat in a country that lost control for most of last year. The militants parked a car loaded with explosives outside the house of Abdul Latef Sayed, the leader of the tribal fighting force. (AV)
