19 general in command of the Army
Next August 7th, two brigadier generals, Javier Albuja and Fernando Drouet, will be promoted to major generals of the Army on August 7th at a military ceremony in Quito, after being qualified by the Supreme Council of Generals and Admirals of the Armed Forces.
With them, there are four senior army officers who hold that degree. The other two are Major General Carlos Obando and the chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, Edwin Freire, who were promoted last year.
In two years, both will have a new qualification process for the rank of General of the Army, which is the last in the military ladder, and that very few have reached within the military career.
The new division generals will exercise the functions of Chief of Staff and Inspector General of the Army, the same that Troya and Proaño will exercise until next week.
With the promotions, 19 brigadier and division generals will integrate the military leadership of the land force, the same that Brigadier General Luis Eduardo Zaldumbide joined on june 25th.
