In Ecuador the salary of women is even lower than that of men

Posted On 04 Aug 2015

Mujeres-ecuadortimes-ecuadornewsAccording to the National Statistics and Census Institute (INEC for its Spanish acronym), the average labor monthly income of a man is $ 519.61, while for a woman it is $ 418.17, meaning they earn $ 101.44 less than them.

The difference is that the salary is based on the position they have in an organization and that was paid according to the table established by the Ministry of Labour, in which there is no gender discrimination, explains businessman Manuel Muñoz.

Although it should be taken into consideration other factors such as the academic preparation, which sometimes is interrupted by pregnancies at a young age.

Between June 2014 and 2015, the overall employment rate decreased by 0.01 percentage points for the ladies and increased 0.38 percentage points for men. As for suitable jobs, men are still the kings, and their rate is 17.56 percentage points higher than that of females.

The difference is also seen in the female owners of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) worldwide, according to Miguel Camacho, an adviser to the International Trade Centre (ITC), they take the smallest piece of cake of public procurement. SMEs of women earn only 1% of the $ 10 billion of public procurement in the world, a difference that the United Nations and the World Trade Organization seek to shorten through the ITC.
