2 million cell phones are registered in Ecuador

The Superintendent of Telecommunications Fabián Jaramillo said on Wednesday, August 14th that 2 million cell phones that have entered the country have been registered.
Of this amount, 480 000 comply with all the requirements to operate in the country. While the other terminals have been rejected and have dropped to negative lists due to inconveniences.
In the case of the cloned equipments, he said that a process of purification has been initiated, blocking the equipments that have been reported as stolen in Ecuador and in neighboring countries such as Colombia and Peru.
From March 12, 2014, the day when the measure went into effect, so far, 1.3 million equipments from illegal sources have been blocked, Jaramillo said.
