201 technological products will be tariff free from 2016
The World Trade Organization (WTO) reached an agreement among 54 of its members to eliminate fees in technological equipment that contribute to the development and innovation of countries. 161 states that are part of the institution will benefit.
The objects to be released from tariffs under a three-year timetable will be published in October. Medical equipment to take MRI scans, touchscreens, GPS navigation systems, communications satellites and small components of electronic cards as semiconductors and printed circuit board.
“Eliminating tariffs on trade in such magnitude will have a huge impact. It will allow low prices to be maintained, even in other sectors that use technological products as inputs, and will create jobs,” he said. This is bigger than a global agreement among the automotive, trade in textiles, clothing, iron and steel sectors in common,” said Roberto Azevedo, general director of WTO.
