Today, Brazilian Foreign Minister, Antonio Patriota, announced that Mercosur is studying the possibility of including Bolivia and Ecuador as full members of the bloc created 20 years ago by Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
Patriot told the media of his country, on the eve of the 41 Mercosur Summit to be held in Asuncion on Wednesday, this is an ”initiative that comes as a new idea” for an agenda “in the future “.
Bolivia and Ecuador are associated states of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), formed by Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Venezuela is in process of joining the group.
The head of the Brazilian diplomacy considered that both Bolivia and Ecuador must give up the Andean Community (CAN), as did Venezuela on 21 April.
