Unemployment and labor inestability for youngsters was discussed in the OIT
During the presentation of the report ‘Decent work and youth in Latin America’, the regional director of the international organization of work (OIT), Elizabeth Tinoco, said that the young people of ages 15 to 24 are the most affected by unemployment and lack of employment.
De los 108 millones de jóvenes latinoamericanos, un poco más de la mitad, 56,1 millones están ocupados o están buscando trabajo, y un 13,9% busca trabajo y no lo entiende, lo que representa 7,8 millones. “La tasa se triplica el desempleo de los adultos: tres jóvenes por cada adulto que no tiene empleo”, dijo.
El informe indica que aproximadamente 27 millones de jóvenes son los trabajadores informales, esto significa un 55,6% de los jóvenes ocupados se ve afectada por la inestabilidad laboral y la falta de derechos, ya sea en el sector informal, o en empresas formales o en los hogares domésticos trabajos.
Por otra parte, en la región de 21,8 millones de jóvenes no estudian ni trabajan (20.3% de los jóvenes en edad de trabajo) llamado ‘ni-nis’. Sin embargo 12 millones de ellos se dedican a las tareas del hogar. El representante de la Agencia dijo que el 70% de los que no estudian ni trabajan son mujeres jóvenes.
