8 Provinces of Ecuador Declared in Orange Alert Due the Fires

At 13 days from the beginning of the forest fires in Ecuador, the National Secretary of Risk, Maria Pilar Cornejo, reported that the provinces of Pichincha, Imbabura, Carchi, Chimborazo, Cañar, Azuay, Loja and El Oro are on orange alert from now.

The Interior Minister, Jose Serrano, said that a campaign to reward people, who report arsonists, will start tomorrow.

The only suspect captured so far by the act of arson, Wilson Cevallos, was arrested this morning and put into custody.

According to statements by the police officers who arrested him, Cevallos was holding a bag with two boxes of matches and, at the time of his arrest, the suspect would have revealed that he liked fire. (MZ)
