Yes, that’s what you read; Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Seacrest, Serena Williams, Alicia Keys and many other celebrities have decided to die on Wednesday—December 1st (International AIDS day)—to support the Keep a Child Alive Foundation, on which Alicia keys is one of the ambassadors.

The celebrities will log off their Twitter and Facebook accounts to contribute to the campaign by making a “Digital Life Sacrifice”, they will not log on their social media accounts until their fans buy their lives back. The idea is to raise $1 million to support families affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.

“We’re trying to sort of make the remark: Why do we care so much about the death of one celebrity as opposed to millions and millions of people dying in the place that we’re all from?” said Leigh Blake, the president and co-founder of Keep a Child Alive, who also thinks Ggaga will raise the million all by herself due to his 7.2 million followers on Twitter and her 24 million fans on Facebook.

The official web site of the campaign says: “When you buy life, you give life to millions of people affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India by providing the medicine, food and shelter needed to fight this awful disease”.

The Buy Life initiative consists of bar codes that will be placed in many locations, people who see the bar codes can scan them with Stickybits or WIMO—these applications have to be previously downloaded—on their smartphones to instantly make a purchase.

Scannable Buy Life T-shirts are also for sale, people who want to encourage the campaign can wear them and become live ads for the people who also want to make a contribution.
Here’s a video of the Buy Life campaign, feel free to visit the Keep a Child Alive and Buy Life web sites.
