French Justice Investigates IMF Chief

French judges have opened an investigation this Tuesday against the IMF chief, Christine Lagarde, for allegedly approving a high payment for a friend of the French president Nicolas Sarkozy, when she was a Ministry of Finance.

The decision to open an investigation during the summer recess affects one of the most important figures of the economy in the world. Lagarde is facing an investigation for complicity in embezzlement after approving a payment of 285 million of euro for Bernard Tapie in 2008.

The investigation committee conformed by three judges of the Court of Justice, will summon Lagarde to testify, however there is no date at the moment. (AV)
