A General Unified Baccalaureate (BGU for its Spanish acronym) will be applied in the beginning of the school year in the Highlands and the Amazon region in Ecuador. The new baccalaureate is scheduled to begging on September 5, in accordance with the Law of Intercultural Education, reported news agency Andes.
The sixth transitory provision determines that the measure “must begin during the school year 2011 – 2012 in every school from the first year of high school.”
The new BGU adds three mandatory years of study following the end of the elementary education years.
