El Universo case: Former Judge Encalada presented Evidence to the Prosecution
A 28-page document with the transcript of a video file of 50 minutes was given a few minutes ago by the lawyer of former judge Monica Encalada who denounced an alleged corruption in the ruling against El Universo newspaper.
John Vizueta, vice president of the local School of Lawyers, presented at the prosecutors Office of Guayas the evidence that the former judge had announced she would unveil in her return to the country in mid-March.
According Vizueta, the video is a meeting held on January 30, 2012, between Encalada and Judge Juan Paredes who issued the judgment against the newspaper. The video confirms that Gutenberg Vera supposedly “gave” him a “flash drive” with the written statement in which he made few changes as reducing the amount of compensation of USD 60 million to 40 million.
Vizueta said the video shows Paredes upset because Gutenberg Vera “did not accomplish him with two posts he offered in exchange of the sentence. Until yesterday, the judge Paredes said he had not met with Encalada. (FL)
