In 2013 Ecuador will decide in regard to Mercosur

“For a country without national currency, as Ecuador, entering into these agreements has opportunities but also great risks”, said Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, in Brasilia (Brasil), in regard to the possibility that this country to apply for a membership as a partner of the Mercosur, therefore, anticipated that the decision will be taken in the first quarter of 2013.
During the summit held in Brasilia, the president emphasized that, by effects of dollarization, since 2000, Ecuador lacks of monetary policy, and consequently, when a country forms part of this type of agreements like the Mercosur, impacts occur in trade policy, especially in the tariff area.
