On January 16 of 1988, the  Centro de Arte Theater(TCA) was inaugurated with a special ceremony closed by the Guayaquilean soloist Beatriz Parra Durango, and initiated a cultural and artistic activity recognized nationally and internationally.

Beatriz Parra relates that the TCA was built thanks to the initiative of many women who  belonged to Sociedad Femenina de Cultura (SFC) under the direction of Inge Brückman de Hollihan. Former late President León Febres Cordero offered all the governmental support to realize it.

Since its inauguration, the TCA has received several famous artists such as José Carreras, Spanish tenor, or French mime man Marcel Marceau. This was made possible with the directors’ work, especially Brückman and Luisa Caputi de Cuesta, the current SFC president.

TCA’s infrastructure is now divided in a principal theatre which can welcome 869 spectators and an experimental room for 220 persons.
According to Caputi, TCA’s priority is formation. That’s why they lead a program named “Semilleros” which offers free ballet dance classes for children with limited resources.

Tomorrow, from 20h30, the theatre will be in a celebration atmosphere with a busy program that will present  theatre with a fragment of the piece Hurlyburly, written by David Rabe, dance with a choreography by Robert Rodriguez, and music with the performance of the TCA’s Chamber Orchestra.

As Beatriz Parra said, 25 years after her first gala in the TCA, “what they did is an honorable work, serious, which respects art.”
