Through the social network Twitter, the founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange announced he will be present in the elections for the Australian Senate that will be carried out on September this year. The announcement was made hours after the Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, announced that citizens of Australia will vote on September 14, 2013.

While Christine Assange, mother of the WikiLeaks founder, said: “It will be awesome. In the Chamber of Representatives we have to choose between the number one party lackeys of United States and the party number two lackey of the United States between the two major parties,” she said in a statement to the Australian Associated Press.

However, despite its announcement Assange remains locked in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, since June 2012, after seeking asylum in an attempt to prevent his extradition to Sweden, where he faces legal charges for alleged sex crimes.

In another message on Twitter from WikiLeaks it announced that Assange could “participate with the party WikiLeaks.” While on Saturday 26 January, Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino said the country may be seeking a judicial exit on the Assange case in case the cannot reach a diplomatic settlement, but admitted, “it is not the best choice.”
