Today restarts the selling of crab in Ecuador, one of the most consumed products mainly on the coast of our country.

In this ban period, which began on January 15, was forbidden the capture, transport, processing, marketing and consumption of the red and blue crustacean.

However, authorities of the Undersecretariat of Fisheries Resources (SRP) reported that more than 400 crabs were seized in Santa Elena, Manabi, Guayas, Esmeraldas and El Oro in different operations that took place during this month.

The bans  are carried out to protect the resource and ultimately it won’t scarce. To be exploited, according to experts, the size of the male crab carapace must be at least 6.5 cm. Catchers prefer not to catch females to allow the reproduction of the crustacean.

It was learned that penalties will apply to those who possessed crustaceans during the ban season. By law, they will be fined with two or even ten unified basic wages and imprisonment of 15 to 60 days.
