Scientists discover sort of biological clock in DNA

Screen Shot 2013-10-21 at 15.05.06According to the publication of the journal “Genome Biology,” scientists from the University of California, discovered a mechanism in the DNA that can measure the age of the tissues and organs as a biological clock; this would help to understand the aging process.

This research shows that this “clock” indicates that while many healthy tissues age at the same rate as the rest of the body, many others do it faster or slower. Scientists believe that to clarify its activity would help to understand the aging process and thus develop drugs to control it.

Steve Horvath , professor of genetics at the University of California, in charge of the investigation said: “It would be very exciting to develop therapeutic interventions to reset the clock and hopefully stay Young.”

The biological clock is accelerated in the first years of life up to 20 years old, then slows down and keeps a steady pace.
