Temporary teachers of the University of Guayaquil will compete to continue
Enrique Santos, academic member of the Board of higher education (CES), announced on Tuesday that the teachers of the University of Guayaquil, who have taught for several years, but that do not have the ownership of the Chair must enter a contest of merits and opposition to continue in the institution.
“There are many teachers who have worked here for ten, fifteen, twenty years (…). They will have to compete and surely by the great experience that they have accumulated, much of them could enter as official teachers or stable teachers here at the University,”said Santos.
The comprehensive assessment will consist of three fields, the second consists in the evaluation from their academic peers and the directives of the institution, and finally there will be an evaluation by the students.
The Commission Comptroller Report indicates that the institution have 3.501 teachers, of whom only 63% have a third-level title, 37% a master’s degree and less than 1% a Ph.D (doctorate).
Among them, only 2% works full-time and more than half do not have appointment.
The contests for entering the University will be also applied to new teachers. ” will enter those who comply with the requirements of the law, as it is to have a master’s degrees, and a minimum number of people with a Ph.d.. That may be part time. That is part of the regulation”, said Jorge Kalil, inspector.
