Thai Army seizes power with a coup

This Thursday, two days after martial law was declared in the country, the Thai army chief, General Prayuth Chan-ocha, announced that with a coup he will take over the government in order to restore order to the country after months of political instability.

“For the country to return to normal quickly, the National Committee for Peacekeeping, composed of the Army, the Thai Armed Forces and the Air Force and the Police, have to take power from 16:30 hours of May 22,” Prayuth said during a televised speech.

Also the general asked the people to continue with their daily lives and said the Army took over the government in order to restore order and move forward with political reforms.

Prayuth also promised that Thailand will maintain bilateral relations with other countries.
