INEC adjusts concepts and classify the employed population into three groups

Posted On 22 Oct 2014

inecThe country’s labor statistics were adjusted to a new conceptual framework developed by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC for its Spanish acronym) and the National Secretariat for Planning and Development (Senplades). The new proposal classifies the employed population into three groups: adequate employment, inadequate employment and not classified employment.

The objective was to conform to international standards and recommendations of the International Labour Organization (ILO), said José Rosero, head of INEC, entity that adjusted its statistics series since 2007 to the new classification and introduced new terms.

The characteristic of adequate or inadequate is determined by the compliance of a legal workday and earning at least the unified basic salary, $ 340 per month. The adecquate job is formed by the people without deficiencies of hours or income.

According to the new classification, the adecquate job increased from 53.9 to 57.6% between September 2013 and September 2014. And inadequate employment fell from 39.3 to 37.3% in the same period.
