First woman bishop in English church

The Church of England already has its first female bishop. Reverend Libby Lane, is the first woman to hold the position, after approving the access of women to the episcopate last November.

Lane has been appointed Bishop of Stockport. She is 48 and is a pastor since 2007 in the churches of St. Peter Hale, and St. Elizabeth, inAshley, in the diocese of Chester (English north). After knowing the news she shown ‘very excited’ by the ‘unexpected’ appointment and gave thanks to God.

Lane’s husband, George, chaplain of the Manchester Airport, is also a priest. They were one of the first married couples of the Anglican Church to be ordained at the same time.
