Ecuadorians prefer to buy in Colombia due to low prices

Due to the devaluation of the Colombian peso, this currency has depreciated by over 50% against the dollar in a year.
The price is much more convenient. In Quito, an LG 49 inches TV costs about $ 1,200, in Ipiales it costs $ 780.
Another of the most popular places is the central park of Ipiales. In stores of the surrounding area hundreds of compatriots buying clothes, stereos, shoes, laptops, cell phones, among others can be seen. “It seems that Christmas has come to Ipiales,” says Pablo Gutierrez, one of the vendors of the sector and also says that such movement was only seen in December.
Harold Guerrero Delgado, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Ipiales, estimates that in recent days the entry of between 16 000 and 18 000 Ecuadorian vehicles has been registered, and therefore he considers that in this town of 120,000 inhabitants, there could be some 50,000 Ecuadorians visitors, meaning that this town is welcoming 40% of its population.
