Tuesday, several photographs showing a man touching protected species of the Galapagos Islands were disseminated through social networks, this act constitutes a violation of the law. The images were published in the account of Oleg Savrasov (@welcomadventure), identified as a Russian tourist.
The man is shown holding a marine iguana, kissing a giant tortoise, among other approaches, on the Santa Cruz Island.
The Ministry of the Environment and the Directorate of the Galapagos National Park reported on Tuesday night that the tourist entered and left the islands in 2009 and the photos were published between 2011 and 2014.
In a statement, both organizations recalled that tourists visiting the Galapagos Islands must comply with conduct standards that include maintaining a minimum distance of two meters from animals and they are banned from feeding the animals.
It is unofficially known that the tourist in question is not currently in the country. (I)
