The conference ‘Tourism for All,’ in charge of the Ministry of Tourism, the National Council for Equality of Disabilities (Conadis) and the National Federation of Ecuadorians with Physical Disability (Fenedif), concluded yesterday in Manta. The event was attended by citizens, representatives of the tourism sector, and provincial and municipal governments. Miguel Valencia, a person with disabilities, stressed the importance of dialogue.
Mario Sabando, a leader of the Association of Deaf People in Portoviejo, expressed the need for people to know sign language in tourist places, such as hotels. While Rita Párraga, leader of the Association of the Blind, said they need ramps, handrails, elevators in the tourism sector.
President of Conadis and Fenedif Xavier Torres stated that the idea of these conferences is to achieve the involvement of the tourism industry towards a public policy on the rights of people with disabilities.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Tourism Carlos Larrea said that “working for a destination accessible to all is to strengthen and respect the rights of persons with disabilities.” (I)
