Ecuador signed agreements with 3 travel agencies

The Ministry of Tourism signed agreements with Expedia, TripAdvisor and Despegar to increase the online promotion of the attractions of the country. Ecuador is now part of the system of International Online Travel Agencies by the agreement signed with the companies Expedia, TripAdvisor and Despegar.

This alliance is a strategy to strengthen the promotion and provide travelers with the possibility of immediately knowing the services that are in the country. Most of the OTA acts as a social network, where the user creates the content by providing travel experiences, images and opinions of their experience. In these sites, which also allow purchase transactions, the consumer has the option to assemble packages and choose the offers of their choice.

The Minister of Tourism, Enrique Ponce de León, stressed that working with these technological platforms allows the country to carry out an intelligent promotion to reach the different target markets

“Through Expedia, TripAdvisor and Despegar we want to reach the markets of Europe, the United States, Canada, Latin America and the entire world,” he said. For his part, Jorge Luis Páez, manager of Despegar Ecuador, stressed that the scope of his agency present in 22 markets can stimulate receptive tourism and strengthen domestic tourism “We have recruited thousands of hotels. Only from Ecuador we work with 1,400 hotels and we have thousands of tour operators. We need to strengthen this effort and that is why we have a plan to execute it this year that is aligned with the Government’s objectives,” said the businessman.

On the side of TripAdvisor, his representative, Kristen Banner, said that Ecuador has a significant presence on this platform with 430 million comments, which will allow more to promote the country. He added the importance of educating the tourism sector for a smart promotion.

Projections 

Growth is expected in 2018 

With the different strategies, plans and projects carried out by the Ministry of Tourism, this year’s results are expected to double the results obtained in 2017 in terms of local tourism and the arrival of foreign tourists to the country.

 14 percent increased the country’s receptive tourism in 2017 compared to 2016.
