Ecuador condemns murder of five journalists in the US

Posted On 02 Jul 2018

Ecuadornews:

The Government of Ecuador today condemned the death of five people after the shooting occurred on Thursday at the premises of the newspaper The Capital Gazette, in the city of Annapolis, Maryland, United States.

The Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry, in an official statement, expressed on behalf of the Government “their grief and solidarity with the five fatalities and people injured as a result of the shooting that happened on June 28, in the facilities” of said newspaper.

Ecuador reiterated its condemnation of “all types of violence coming from any source” and vowed “because this type of painful situation does not happen again in the future.”

At least five people were killed and three more had to be treated by medical services after a shooting in the Capital Gazette building, where authorities arrested a suspect who, they said, acted for “revenge.”

According to an investigation by the Committee to Protect Journalists the shooting is the deadliest single attack on a media outlet in recent US history.

The Committee to Protect Journalists indicated that until this week and since 1992, when it began to keep records, seven journalists have been murdered in the United States in connection with their work. (I)
