6,000 Venezuelans started classes in Ecuador

In the public education system, 8,000 foreigners entered for the first time. 80% are Venezuelans. The MinEduc implements the Digital Educational Agenda. After two months of vacation, 1’959,133 students who are trained in the Sierra-Amazonia regime started the classes.

The income, according to the schedule of the Ministry of Education (MinEduc), is staggered. Yesterday the teenagers of first, second and third year of high school returned to the classrooms. Today they will enter the eighth, ninth and tenth years of basic education, on Wednesday, the middle school, on Thursday the elementary school and on Friday the high school (first year).

The children of initial education will begin their training on September 10. Manuel Muñoz, Undersecretary of Education of the Metropolitan District of Quito, informed that in the capital, 661,000 children and adolescents are enrolled in the school year. They are educated in 1,384 tax, municipal, private and fiscomisional establishments.

The inauguration of the school year of the Sierra-Amazonia cycle was held at Colegio Gran Colombia, located in the north of the capital. There 2,100 students are trained. Clara Hinojosa is one of them. The teenager, 15 years old, is new at Colegio Gran Colombia, located in the north of the city.

In this establishment, where 2,100 teenagers are educated, the school year was inaugurated. On her first day of classes, Clara was accompanied by her mother, Marina Ron, who commented that for economic reasons they moved from home and her daughter was enrolled in a school near her new home.

During the inauguration, the student was a little shy. “I miss my friends, but I have a predisposition to meet new people,” Clara said, as she said goodbye to her mother and walked to her classroom.

Muñoz added that the MinEduc determined that this school year will be the year of respect, which is framed by the principles of non-discrimination, gender equality, justice, dignity, solidarity and peace.

New learning practices

The Deputy Minister of Educational Management, Mónica Reinoso, said that the new learning practices in the classroom will be carried out with the use of digital tools (texts). She pointed out that since the MinEduc implements the Digital Educational Agenda 2017-2021. To date, the strategy delivered 19,886 laptops, 8,748 tablets, benefiting 1,372,112 students and 66,911 teachers.

The official added that Agreement 081-A was issued, which establishes the guidelines on the promotion and use of digital school texts. In the new school year, parents can voluntarily express the wish that their children use digital books, instead of the printed ones. On the first day of classes, the teachers presented themselves to the students and gave general indications of the work that will be done during the school year.

Students will access the recursos2.educacion.gob.ec platform to download the videos, digital school texts and take them with them on their portable tablet, on their computer or on any digital device, said the Vice Minister.

For this year, this Education portfolio performs corrective and preventive maintenance of more than 7,000 educational units with an investment of $ 112.5 million. Reinoso reminded parents that in the country there is a regulation of the weight of the school backpack. This must not be greater than 10% of the student’s weight.

In addition, the use of the school skirt will be optional for students when attending establishments or official events. The teachers are also urged to dose the dispatch of tasks, respecting the rest days.

Foreign students

Of more than 1,950,000 students, about 1,500,000 are for tax education and more than 133,000 are new students. Of them, 8,000 are foreigners. Of that group, 80% (6,000) are Venezuelans, reported Daniel Serrano, undersecretary of support, monitoring and regulation of the Ministry of Education.

According to the official, that figure could increase because the period of enrollment in the educational units has not yet concluded. For a foreign student to be part of the public system, you need to present the ID.
